How it all began

The idea began with the investigation of solar pumping solutions for irrigation. Not so much about how they work … but more about why they aren’t used more extensively. After all, even basic irrigation results in significant increases in crop yields over rainfed agriculture. Access to power rather than access to water is often the bottleneck for adequate water supply in many parts of the world. The prices of solar photovoltaics have dropped by about 90% in the last decade. Particularly when applied in sunbelt countries, the use of solar energy for irrigation pumping seems a winning combination…
